Review
Puzzle Games have always been popular on the Amiga, and we've had some
particularly good ones, too (Lemmings and Benefactor come to mind). Logic
is, as the name implies, another puzzler. This one is quite simple, the
main idea is based on the paper and pencil game Tic Tac Toe. There are a
few differences, though. First of all, the aim is to get four in a row,
not three. Secondly, and most importantly, you're not dealing with a 4*4
grid, but four 4*4 grids above each other. So, if you've marked the
bottom-left corner in each of the grids, this will also count as four in a
row, and you will win.

Graphics and music fit the game well. All drawings and animations look
good (the title picture is a bit simple, though), and I don't really think
a game this simple would benefit from any more visual effects.

The added dimension makes Logic a lot more challenging than a regular game
of Tic Tac Toe. The computer opponent is also quite intelligent (there are
10 different difficulty settings, by the way). But it has to be said that
the game falls over on the simple concept - why buy a computer game when
you can create the same thing with a piece of paper and a pencil? And even
the added third dimension does not save the gameplay from becoming horribly
repetive after a while. At the same time, Logic is useful for those times
when you've got ten minutes until your favourite tv show starts, and
happen to have the computer turned on.

If I'd been reviewing this game when it came out, basing my verdict on a
full-price version, I'd have to give this game a low score. But I'm
reviewing it for the AGDB, years after it's original release. So my
conclusion is that if you find the game somewhere, and you don't have to
pay a great deal to get it (it's also available for download at one of the
legal adf archives, by the way), you won't be disappointed as long as you
know what you're getting: An advanced version of Tic Tac Toe.


Note: The idea of adding three dimensions to Tic Tac Toe has been tried
before on the Amiga. A game which is simply called '3d Tic Tac Toe' is
exactly like this game, though without the possibillity of two human
players (strangely enough), and without the different difficulty settings.
The graphics are also considerably cruder in 3d TTT. You should be able to
find 3d Tic Tac Toe on the Aminet or in a decent PD Library.
